The year is 2010 and at the start of December when this articles was published I have already been Christmas tree spotting since November. A gay season to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ has turned into an opportunity for shops to increase their profit making. Many delightful coloured lights and decorations with fill the streets with trees and made up presents and gifts to attract ones attention. Gadget shops, book shops, toy stores electronic stores and gizmos store all hard push their sales technique in order to get you to part with your money. I ask this. When did we lose the meaning of Christmas
As we reach mid December shops will open later allowing more time to part with your money. Christmas cards will be sent out and hung on our walls. The royal mail pushed to their limits as we make our last minute Christmas cards and send our parcels of gifts for our family and friends.. Christmas cards started in 1840 when the first "penny post" postal service deliveries began and as the quality of printing began so did the amount of Christmas cards being printed. And started being made in larger bundles by 1860. They were made even more popular by the cost of sending a Christmas card in an unsealed envelope for one half penny! The dispiriting thing about Christmas cards which I miss is the religious pictures that they use to carry such as of Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. With cards of this century they are usually images of novelty gimmick pictures and often contain jokes. They still relate to Christmas such as the winter images or father Christmas range but they fill lest connect to the religious side.
Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Father Christmas. With his large sacks of children toys. He is still an icon today as he ever was. His large white beard and heavy broad should and belly full of mince pies, he brings smiles to all the well behaved children and he is still believed to deliver on Christmas eve to all those that made the good list. Of course this fairy tale story is short lived and barely reached to the child 6th year before they release or hear that Father Christmas is some sort of fake. Father Christmas has a real name called of St Nicolas who was a Christian leader from Myra in the 6th century AD. He was a quiet man keeping to himself and didn't want people to know of his good deeds when he started to visit the poor delivering small presents that he would make. He was a big-hearted man and like to help to those poorest to him out. With his gift in his toy sack full of magic cool toys it is believed that one day he climbed the roof of a house and had dropped his purse down the chimney into a young girls stocking and it is here that the story of Father Christmas climbing down chimneys and placing gifts in the stocking started.
On the day of Christmas as the children huddle round the fire eating candy and opening their latest high-tech electronics gadgets and gizmos not a though will be put into why we are celebrating this special occasion. The average persons will not go to a religious meeting or church It's become a huge rush to get to the shops and get them latest toys or novelty items for some close to you. With the big bold bright letters of sales, by one get one free we are constantly flying around from shop to shop losing the Christmas meaning and just worrying on pleasing that person who will receive your generous present.
I will be a full if I sat here and said nobody cares. Many people do still believe in Christmas and its meaning and many do want to return to that time in life where we woke up with no more than a penny but felt the love of our family members and the joys of the festive meaning. Christmas should be enjoyed by kids for this reason. There is a hidden message and I give you a clue it's not about the size of your present. What you got him or her, how cool is yours over his. Do you know the real Christmas. Next time you're out buying a present at your gadget store which contains all the latest gizmos, stop for a second and remember why we have a Christmas.
